THE RISE OF CHEMICALS IN THE ENVIRONMENT
Over the last 100 years, thousands of chemicals have been introduced into our society. Most chemicals are not tested for their safety. Industry in the US doesn't need to prove a chemical is safe before it goes into the market.
The average person doesn't know what’s in flame retardants, furniture, cleaning supplies, body lotions, shampoos, or makeup. We are changing our physiology one chemical at a time without even knowing it.
The EPA regulates the chemical industry in the US per TSCA of 1976. There is not a requirement by the EPA to demonstrate safety in chemicals and the procedural hurdles once a risk is deemed are very high. We cannot rely on the EPA to ban toxic substances.
The chemical industry spends over $50 million a year on lobbying efforts in Washington, D.C., to restrict updated legislation.

THE PROBLEM OF MICROPLASTICS everywhere
We all know that plastics are everywhere, but did you know that plastic pollution is getting inside our bodies? As plastics degrade over time, they give rise to microplastics—particles smaller than a sesame seed. Furthermore, microplastics undergo further breakdown into nanoplastics, which are invisible to the naked eye, yet capable of penetrating cells and tissues within the body - right where they end up!
In a recent study of bottled waters, on average a liter of bottled water included about 240,000 tiny pieces of plastic - 90% of which are nanoplastics.

Ingesting microplastics can lead to various health issues, including hormone disruption, reproductive abnormalities, oxidative stress, gastrointestinal dysfunction, increased mortality, neurotoxicity, and cancer.
